Slim Buster Urges Emerging Artistes To Build Independent Music Careers

Veteran Ghanaian musician Slim Buster has advised upcoming artists to avoid depending on financial support from women in order to fund their music careers. In a recent interview on Hitz FM’s UsayWetin show, Slim Buster warned that while many new musicians lack resources, relying on romantic partners for money can create complicated expectations that can harm both personal lives and professional progress.

According to Slim Buster, it is common for inexperienced artistes to turn to women for financial help because they do not have enough money to sustain their creative work. However, he stressed that such support often comes with implicit expectations of long-term commitment, which may not always be healthy or beneficial. He cautioned that once an artiste accepts money from a woman, they should be prepared to accept the emotional and relational consequences that may follow.

He explained the risks clearly, stating that once an artiste allows a woman to support them financially, it could lead to situations where the artiste feels obligated to remain in the relationship, even when it becomes problematic. Slim Buster highlighted that trying to exit such arrangements can result in negative fallout, including damage to reputation and career momentum.

His remarks have sparked discussion on social media, with many people debating the challenges facing upcoming musicians, the role of relationships in career development, and the need for more reliable institutional support for emerging creatives in Ghana’s music industry. Many followers agree that independence and professionalism are essential for long-term success, while others note the financial pressures that make such independence difficult to achieve.
