CID Boss Explains Why She Calls Stonebwoy And Shatta Wale Her Sons

The Director‑General of Ghana’s Criminal Investigation Department, Commissioner of Police Lydia Yaako Donkor, has offered insight into why she refers to popular musicians Stonebwoy and Shatta Wale as her sons. Her comments have sparked conversation among fans and followers of Ghanaian music and law‑enforcement communities.

COP Donkor explained that her use of the term “sons” is a sign of affection and respect toward the artists rather than a literal family relationship. She said that both Stonebwoy and Shatta Wale have shown qualities of respect and commitment in their engagement with social issues and youth initiatives, which has earned her admiration for them as young men she sees in a positive light.

The two musicians are among Ghana’s most influential entertainers. Stonebwoy, whose real name is Livingstone Etse Satekla, is a leading figure in Afropop, dancehall and reggae and has won major awards including Best International Act Africa at the BET Awards and multiple Ghana Music Awards. Shatta Wale, born Charles Nii Armah Mensah Jr., is a reggae‑dancehall artist known for his strong presence in Ghana’s music scene since the early 2000s.

COP Donkor’s remarks are part of broader engagement by senior officers who often work with artists and celebrities in community outreach and public safety partnerships. She emphasised that referring to the musicians as her sons reflects the close bonds that can form between community figures and influential public personalities when they work collectively to inspire young people.

Neither Stonebwoy nor Shatta Wale have publicly responded yet to COP Donkor’s comments, but many fans have voiced support for her positive framing of their relationship with the CID.
