Woman Arrested After Setting Fire Inside Alpha Hour Church Auditorium
A woman has been arrested after she allegedly set part of the Alpha Hour church auditorium on fire during a prayer service in Kumasi. CCTV footage showed her moving among worshippers as if praying before pouring a flammable liquid on chairs near the altar and igniting the blaze. The fire was spotted on the church’s surveillance system, and security personnel quickly intervened to stop it and detain the suspect before the flames spread further.
The incident took place at the auditorium used by followers of Pastor Elvis Agyemang, the founder and convener of Alpha Hour. The fire was set not far from the pastor’s office, raising concerns over the danger the act posed to those present at the time. Thankfully, no major injuries were reported as the quick response prevented the fire from escalating into a more serious situation.
Pastor Elvis Agyemang subsequently announced that all physical prayer meetings at the auditorium would be suspended indefinitely while the facility undergoes repair and restoration. He assured congregants that the ministry’s activities would continue despite the disruption and expressed gratitude that the situation was brought under control without loss of life.
In recent times, the church has reported multiple instances of unusual or suspicious activity on its premises, including people bringing strange substances and objects into the auditorium, according to Pastor Agyemang. The police have indicated that they will carry out further investigations into the matter as the suspect remains in custody.
