Energy Minister Swears In New VRA Resettlement Trust Fund Board

The Minister for Energy and Green Transition, Dr John Abdulai Jinapor, has formally sworn in the newly constituted Board of the Volta River Authority (VRA) Resettlement Trust Fund. The event took place during a brief ceremony where the minister outlined expectations for the board’s work in supporting resettled communities across Ghana.

Dr Jinapor reminded board members that the VRA Resettlement Trust Fund was established to address the developmental needs of communities that were displaced by major energy projects, especially the construction of dams by the Volta River Authority. He urged the board to focus on accountability, transparency, and delivering positive social impact in those communities.

During his address, the minister emphasised that the board must prioritise projects that improve public health, education, sanitation, and other essential services that directly raise living standards in resettled areas. He said strong leadership and strategic use of the Trust Fund’s resources are critical to making a real difference on the ground.

The newly inducted board includes members with a variety of professional and governance backgrounds. Dr Jinapor expressed confidence that their diverse expertise would help strengthen decision-making and ensure that programmes are responsive to the communities’ needs.

He also reminded the board of its fiduciary responsibilities and called on members to uphold the highest standards of integrity as they manage the fund’s resources. This message reflects broader government efforts to ensure that statutory funds are administered transparently and produce visible development results.

The VRA Resettlement Trust Fund plays an important role in supporting people and communities affected by displacement related to energy infrastructure projects. With the new board now in place, stakeholders will be watching to see how the minister’s directives translate into practical outcomes.
