Medikal Named Ambassador to Lead National Youth Anti-Drug Campaign

Ghanaian rapper Samuel Adu Frimpong, popularly known as Medikal, has been officially appointed as an ambassador for the National Youth Authority’s “Red Means Stop” campaign, a government initiative designed to address the rising issue of substance abuse among young people in Ghana.

The announcement was made in Parliament by the Minister for Youth Development and Empowerment, George Opare Addo, who explained that Medikal’s influence among youth through his music and social media presence makes him a strategic partner for promoting the campaign’s message.

The “Red Means Stop” initiative seeks to educate young Ghanaians about the dangers of drug abuse, especially relating to synthetic substances such as high-dose tramadol, commonly known as “red,” which has become a growing concern among students and young adults.

As ambassador, Medikal is expected to play an active role in communicating anti-drug messages and encouraging a drug-free lifestyle. His duties include participating in school outreach programmes, engaging with youth groups, featuring campaign themes in his music videos and public performances, and using his digital platforms to reach a wider audience.

Officials from the National Youth Authority highlighted that involving influential figures like Medikal is key to making the anti-drug message more relatable and impactful among young people nationwide. The campaign forms part of a broader effort under the Ministry of Youth Development and Empowerment to tackle substance abuse and promote healthier lifestyle choices among Ghana’s youth.

Medikal has expressed enthusiasm about his new role and hinted on social media about plans to embark on outreach activities that will carry the campaign’s message to various towns and communities.
