Student Assault Victim Speaks Out After Agona Swedru Brawl
A senior high school student injured during a violent clash at the District Schools Athletics Games in Agona Swedru has shared his account of the incident, describing how he was assaulted and what happened on that day. The attack, which was captured in videos circulating widely online, sparked widespread concern about student violence and safety at inter-school sporting events in the Central Region.
According to the victim, the clash occurred on February 19, 2026, when students from Obrachire Senior High Technical School and the Swedru School of Business became involved in a confrontation during the athletics festival. Eyewitness footage shows a group of students pelting another student with stones and striking him with sticks, leaving him injured and in need of medical treatment.
In remarks shared after the assault, the victim explained that the situation escalated quickly and that he was overwhelmed by the attack before security could intervene. The footage circulating on social media shows the gravity of the violence at the event and has drawn public outrage, prompting calls for better supervision and discipline at school activities.
Police later confirmed that at least three people had been arrested in connection with the assault as investigations continue. Authorities and education officials say they are working to restore calm and prevent similar incidents as school sporting events resume.
Following the clash, the Ghana Education Service has taken steps to ensure the welfare of students who were hurt. Reports indicate that those injured received medical attention and have since returned to their respective schools, and guidance counsellors have been mobilised to support them. This comes alongside renewed emphasis on improving safety measures and adult supervision at inter-school competitions to prevent future outbreaks of violence.
