One Person Dies And 16 Injured In Peki-Tsame Road Crash

A fatal road accident on the Peki-Tsame stretch of the Ho-Akatsi Highway has left one person dead and 16 others injured, police and eyewitnesses say. The crash occurred in the early hours of Friday, February 13, 2026, when a passenger vehicle and a commercial truck collided under circumstances that are now the subject of an official investigation.

According to preliminary reports from the Ghana Police Service, the collision took place near Peki-Tsame, a community in the Volta Region, after the driver of the passenger van lost control and strayed into the path of the oncoming truck. Emergency responders who arrived at the scene found multiple people trapped inside the smaller vehicle, prompting a coordinated rescue effort.

Police say 18 passengers were travelling in the van when the crash happened. Among them, one person died from injuries sustained in the collision, while 16 others suffered a range of injuries and were transported to nearby hospitals for medical treatment. One individual escaped without serious harm and was not taken into care.

The injured victims include both men and women, and their conditions range from minor cuts and bruises to more serious trauma requiring urgent attention, police noted. Health workers at the receiving facilities said they were providing stabilisation and further assessment for those with more severe injuries.

Officials from the Ghana Police Service have indicated that road conditions and visibility at the time may have contributed to the crash, and they are examining whether speed, driver fatigue, or mechanical issues played a role. The highway is known for heavy commercial traffic, and similar collisions have prompted public calls for improved road safety measures.

Traffic was temporarily disrupted as emergency services worked to clear debris and move the injured to ambulances, but normal flow was restored later in the morning after the vehicles were towed from the scene. Local authorities say investigations will continue and that families of the victims are being informed and assisted.

This tragic incident adds to a growing list of road accidents in Ghana in recent months, highlighting persistent concerns about road safety, driver behaviour, and enforcement of traffic regulations. Road users in the area have urged authorities to intensify education and monitoring to prevent similar loss of life in the future.
