NPP Supporter Warns Equipment Will Be Taken From Korle Lagoon If Stonebwoy Songs Are Played At Party Events
A member of the communications team of the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP) and entertainment commentator Kwaku Osei Korankye Asiedu, known popularly as KOKA, has issued a strong warning about the use of songs by Ghanaian musician Stonebwoy at NPP political events. KOKA said that should Stonebwoy’s music be played at any NPP event, equipment used for those performances would be retrieved from the area around the Korle Lagoon.
KOKA’s public comment reflects growing tensions within political and entertainment circles in Ghana over the perceived political associations of artists. His remarks came after what some described as controversial statements linked to Stonebwoy and certain political parties, causing debates among supporters of different political groups.
The Korle Lagoon referenced by KOKA is an area in Accra known for its informal settlements and commercial zones near the waterway, including places such as Agbogbloshie where electronic waste and other materials are often brought and processed.
KOKA’s warning suggests that party organisers should avoid featuring Stonebwoy’s songs in events associated with the NPP to prevent conflict or public disagreement. At the same time there are differing views on how entertainers’ work is used in political spaces, with some arguing that music should remain independent of political affiliation.
No official statement has been released by Stonebwoy or his management team in response to KOKA’s comments, and it remains unclear how the situation might affect future performances or event planning for the NPP or other political organisers.
