Baba Jamal Submits Nomination Form For Ayawaso East By Election
Former Member of Parliament Baba Jamal has officially filed his nomination form to contest the upcoming Ayawaso East by election on the ticket of the National Democratic Congress (NDC). The submission marks a key step in his bid to return to Parliament following the vacancy in the constituency.
Baba Jamal, whose full name is Alhaji Mohammed Ishmael Kwaku Jawula, submitted his documents to the Electoral Commission (EC) at its headquarters in Accra on February 12, 2026. His appearance at the EC was met by supporters and party faithful who cheered as he completed the formalities required to become an official candidate.
In a brief statement to journalists after submitting the nomination papers, Baba Jamal said he is ready to serve the people of Ayawaso East if given another opportunity. He assured voters that he understands the needs of the constituency and has plans to address key issues such as employment, youth empowerment and community development.
He also thanked the leadership of the NDC for entrusting him with the responsibility to represent the party in the by election. Baba Jamal appealed to party supporters to unite behind his candidacy and to work together to secure victory.
The Ayawaso East seat became vacant after the previous Member of Parliament passed away. The by election is scheduled to take place on March 16, 2026 and will see candidates from the major political parties campaigning to win the support of registered voters in the constituency.
Political analysts say the Ayawaso East by election will be closely watched because the area has been an important stronghold for the NDC. The party will be aiming to retain the seat, while its opponents are seeking to make inroads ahead of the general elections later this year.
Baba Jamal’s campaign team has already begun organising activities on the ground to mobilise voters and communicate his message. He has also urged peace and civility among all contestants so that the electoral process remains free and fair.
