Police Officer Shot Dead During Armed Robbery On Zebilla-Widnaba Road
A tragic armed robbery on the Zebilla-Widnaba Road in the Upper East Region has claimed the life of a police officer and left another seriously injured. The Upper East Regional Police Command has launched a full-scale investigation into the incident, which occurred on Sunday, February 8, 2026, while two officers were travelling in the Bawku Division.
According to preliminary findings, the officers encountered a group of armed robbers along the road as they were heading towards Zebilla. The assailants opened fire on the police vehicle, hitting one officer who was seriously wounded. The injured officer was rushed to the Bolgatanga Regional Hospital by a police reinforcement team after a distress call from colleagues. Unfortunately, he was pronounced dead upon arrival at the hospital.
The identity of the deceased officer has not been officially released as of the latest reports, but the loss has sent shockwaves through the security community and local residents. Another officer who was with the deceased suffered critical injuries and is receiving medical treatment, with his condition described as serious as investigations continue.
Police have deposited the body of the fallen officer at the hospital mortuary, where it awaits autopsy, and have urged members of the public to remain calm.
