Alongside these contrasting outfits, the traditional fugu, also known as batakari or the Ghanaian smock, was worn by some MPs during the address. In recent weeks, the fugu has gained renewed national attention as a symbol of Ghana’s rich cultural heritage. Earlier in February 2026, the government officially declared Wednesdays as “Fugu Day” to encourage citizens to wear this traditional garment and promote local textile production and cultural identity.
