Assin South Defection Figures Disputed As Ntim Fordjour Rejects 15,000 Claim

Member of Parliament for Assin South, John Ntim Fordjour, has strongly dismissed claims that 15,000 supporters have defected from the New Patriotic Party (NPP) to the National Democratic Congress (NDC), describing the widely circulated figure as misleading and exaggerated.

The claim, which gained traction on social media and in some political circles, suggested a massive shift in allegiance within the Assin South constituency. However, Ntim Fordjour insists the numbers being reported do not reflect reality.

According to him, images used to support the alleged defection do not match the scale being claimed. He argued that the visuals being circulated fall far short of representing anything close to 15,000 people, raising doubts about the credibility of the reports.

The MP further suggested that the figure may have been inflated for political effect, urging the public to treat such claims with caution. Despite rejecting the numbers, he acknowledged that even small-scale defections should not be ignored.

Ntim Fordjour emphasised that every party member matters and assured supporters that his team remains committed to engaging anyone who may feel disillusioned. He noted that even a single defection would be taken seriously, stressing the importance of reconnecting with party members at all levels.

The controversy follows earlier reports alleging that thousands of NPP supporters, including a former parliamentary aspirant, had joined the NDC in the constituency.

As political tensions continue to rise ahead of upcoming elections, the situation in Assin South highlights the growing battle for grassroots support between Ghana’s two dominant political parties.
