Interior Minister Reveals Only 5,000 Security Service Jobs Available For Over 105,000 Applicants

The Minister for the Interior, Muntaka Mohammed Mubarak, has disclosed that only 5,000 positions are available for recruitment into Ghana’s security services despite more than 105,000 applicants qualifying for the next stage of the process.

Speaking about the ongoing recruitment exercise, the minister explained that the large number of applicants highlights the high demand for jobs within the country’s security institutions. However, the available vacancies remain limited, meaning only a small portion of candidates will ultimately be selected.

According to him, although many applicants successfully passed earlier stages of the recruitment process and qualified for medical examinations, the number of available positions across the various security agencies is restricted. As a result, thousands of qualified candidates will not be able to secure a place despite meeting the basic requirements.

The minister clarified that the recruitment process is designed to ensure that only the most suitable candidates are selected. He noted that security institutions such as the Ghana Police Service and other agencies must adhere to strict recruitment standards in order to maintain professionalism and operational efficiency.

The revelation has sparked discussions about unemployment and the intense competition for positions within Ghana’s security sector. Many young people across the country apply for these jobs each year because they offer stable employment and opportunities for career advancement.

The Interior Minister emphasised that the recruitment exercise must remain transparent and merit based. He added that while the limited number of vacancies may disappoint many applicants, the selection process will ensure that those who are finally recruited are capable of meeting the demands of the job.

He also encouraged unsuccessful applicants not to lose hope, explaining that future recruitment exercises will provide additional opportunities for those who were unable to secure a place this time.

The disclosure about the limited slots highlights the growing demand for employment in the country and the significant interest among young people seeking careers in Ghana’s security services.
