Four Injured After Taxi Collides With Truck At Kotokoraba Market In Cape Coast
Four people have sustained injuries following a road accident involving a taxi and a truck at Kotokoraba Market in Cape Coast in the Central Region.
The crash occurred on Wednesday, March 11, 2026, when a Toyota Echo taxi with registration number GW 5934-14 collided with a Samsung Yamouzine truck with registration number CR 487-18 along the busy Kotokoraba bypass near the market area.
Personnel from the Cape Coast Metropolitan Fire Station of the Ghana National Fire Service responded to the emergency after receiving a distress call at about 10:28 a.m. Firefighters reportedly arrived at the scene within minutes and immediately began rescue operations.
When the rescue team arrived, they found four victims at the scene, including three men and one woman, who had suffered various degrees of injuries in the collision. The injured individuals were quickly transported to the Cape Coast Teaching Hospital and Ewim Polyclinic to receive medical treatment.
Preliminary findings suggest that brake failure on the truck may have contributed to the accident, although investigations are still ongoing to determine the exact cause of the crash.
The impact of the collision left the taxi severely damaged, while the truck sustained partial damage to its engine compartment. Firefighters also worked to clear debris from the road and moved the damaged vehicles to the roadside to restore traffic flow in the busy commercial area.
The accident briefly disrupted traffic around the Kotokoraba market area, one of the busiest transport and trading hubs in Cape Coast.
Authorities have urged motorists to observe road safety regulations and regularly maintain their vehicles to prevent similar incidents
