Ransford Yeboah Was On Standby Before Black Stars Call-Up – Henry Asante Twum Explains

The Ghana Football Association has clarified the circumstances surrounding the late call-up of Ransford Yeboah Königsdörffer to the Black Stars, revealing that the forward was already part of the team’s standby list before being invited.

According to GFA Communications Director Henry Asante Twum, the decision to bring in the Hamburg forward was not a last-minute reaction but part of a pre-planned system. He explained that the technical team always keeps a list of standby players who can be called upon whenever the need arises.

Ransford Yeboah’s inclusion in the squad followed the withdrawal of key attackers Inaki Williams and Brandon Thomas-Asante, both of whom sustained injuries during club duties. Their absence created an opportunity for the young forward to step in without disrupting the team’s structure.

Asante Twum noted that once the decision was made to excuse the injured players, the process of contacting Yeboah’s club was initiated immediately. The forward was then issued travel arrangements and joined the team in camp shortly after.

He further emphasized that being on the standby list made the decision straightforward, as the technical team was already familiar with the player’s abilities and readiness. This ensured a smooth transition and avoided unnecessary delays in reinforcing the squad.

The Black Stars are currently preparing for international friendly matches in Europe, including fixtures against Austria and Germany. Yeboah has already linked up with the squad and is expected to integrate quickly as preparations intensify.

The explanation from the GFA comes amid public discussions about the timing of the call-up, with many fans initially questioning why only one replacement was made despite multiple withdrawals.

By shedding light on the process, the association aims to reassure supporters that player selections are carefully planned and not rushed decisions.
