Jamaican-American Grammy Star Honoured As Development Chief In Ghana

Gramps Morgan, a three-time Grammy Award-winning reggae musician, has been honoured with a prestigious traditional title in Ghana after being installed as a Development Chief by the Ga State.

The celebrated artiste received the title during a colourful ceremony held in Accra shortly after his arrival in the country. Dressed in traditional Ga attire, he was formally introduced to local authorities and given the stool name Nii Oyeni Mp3sɛ I, marking his official integration into the Ga traditional leadership structure.

The honour was conferred by the Ga Traditional Council in recognition of his contributions to promoting cultural exchange and strengthening ties between Ghana and the African diaspora. His new role as Development Chief is expected to support initiatives focused on community growth, unity, and stronger collaboration between Ghana and Caribbean communities.

Gramps Morgan’s visit is also connected to the anticipated Ghana-Jamaica Homecoming Festival 2026, an initiative designed to deepen cultural and economic relations between the two regions.

His enstoolment adds to a growing list of international personalities who have been recognised by Ghanaian traditional leaders for their global influence and contributions to development and cultural connection.

The recognition further highlights Ghana’s ongoing efforts to strengthen diaspora engagement while celebrating influential figures who promote African heritage on the global stage.
