Unemployed Man Jailed Nine Months After Stealing Phone And Other Items

An Accra Circuit Court has sentenced a 31 year old unemployed man to nine months in prison after he pleaded guilty to stealing a mobile phone and other personal belongings. The court found him guilty of theft and breach of trust following his own admission to the offences.

The convict, identified as Sampson Kwabena Ebo, was charged after investigations revealed that he unlawfully took a Nokia HD Android phone valued at GH¢3,000, a woman’s handbag worth GH¢550, and several items of clothing. The prosecution told the court that the accused took possession of the items without the consent of their rightful owner and failed to return them.

During proceedings, the court heard that Ebo had been entrusted with some of the property but later dishonestly converted it for his personal use. His actions resulted in financial loss and inconvenience to the complainant, prompting the matter to be reported to the police. After his arrest, he was arraigned before the court where he chose to admit the charges.

The presiding judge sentenced him to three months imprisonment for breach of trust and an additional six months for the stealing offence. The sentences are to run consecutively, bringing the total prison term to nine months. The court also ordered him to make restitution by refunding or replacing the stolen items.

The ruling reinforces the judiciary’s position on property related offences and serves as a reminder that theft and dishonesty will attract firm legal consequences.
