The sensational Ghanaian highlife musician, who is acknowledged for his outstanding writing ability Kofi Kinaata, has shared his opinion on the current intense controversy in our media space concerning the level of professionalism media personalities exercise during interviews, and according to him, the media has the right and liberty to ask any question they prefer during interviews.
He had an interview with Nana Romeo on Accra FM 100.5 on Thursday, 16th May 2024. And the highlight of the whole conversation had to do with his view on whether questions from interviewers must be restricted or not. Interestingly Kinaata took a shocking stands by backing the media to freely ask questions with no boundaries instead of rooting for his colleagues to oppose unnecessary questions.
However, he further explained that the choice to answer questions lies solely in the discretion of the interviewee, therefore they must be watchful with their answers to avoid being consumed by the type of questions.
This seemed very controversial from the 4 times song writer of the year, because the substance of this whole argument on media professionalism in terms of questioning is to secure artists from being victimized by the provocative questions they encounter on media tours.
Notwithstanding, Kofi Kinaata believes in his efficiency and genuineness so he feels any question can be thrown at him at anytime and further encouraged his colleagues not to be dismayed by questions but rather provide answers with emphasis on their comfort.
Of course he has a point. Because the media has no right to force answers from any one’s mouth so the power to create news from interviews still lies on the artist.
I know the Shatta Movement may have opposing thoughts but I think Kofi Kinaata has a point as well.
