Three People Arrested In Wa West For Illegal Firearms Possession
Police in the Wa West District of the Upper West Region have arrested three men in connection with unlawful possession of firearms and ammunition. The arrests followed a targeted operation in the area that aimed to clamp down on illegal weapons and enhance public safety.
The suspects have been identified as Yahaya Samad (27), Adams Alhassan (37) and Yiritang Boosi (35). According to the report, officers acting on information stopped and searched the individuals and discovered that they were in possession of firearms without the necessary legal authority or permits.
Illegal possession of firearms is a serious offence under Ghanaian law, and authorities say the arrests are part of broader efforts to reduce the circulation of unregistered weapons in communities. Police stated that anyone found with firearms or ammunition without lawful permits could face prosecution and penalties aimed at deterring violent crime and gun-related incidents.
The suspects are currently in custody as investigations continue. Police will also determine how the weapons were obtained and whether the individuals have links to other criminal activities. Authorities reiterated their commitment to enforcing the law and urged the public to report any information about illegal gun possession to help improve safety in the region.
