Two KIA Staff Granted Bail After Alleged Diesel Theft From GACL

Two employees of Kotoka International Airport (KIA) have been granted bail by the court after they were accused of stealing diesel belonging to the Ghana Airports Company Limited (GACL). The men, identified as 46-year-old Daniel Ansah and 33-year-old Sampson Gyamfi, were both working as electrical technicians at the airport when they were taken into custody by the police over the alleged fuel theft. The incident has drawn public attention to employee conduct and accountability at the airport.

According to court records, the men were brought before a judge in connection with the alleged removal of GACL diesel, which is used to support critical airport operations including power generation and ground services. Prosecutors accused them of unlawfully taking the fuel, though specific details on the quantity allegedly involved and how the theft was discovered have not been released.

The court granted bail to both Ansah and Gyamfi with conditions that include regular reporting to the police station three times each week as their case proceeds. They were released after meeting the bail conditions set by the judge, but will remain under investigation.

Officials from law enforcement have said that the investigation will continue and that the suspects may be required to appear in court again as evidence is examined. Representatives of GACL have not publicly commented on the case, but similar incidents have underscored concerns about internal theft and security measures at the airport.

The case highlights ongoing efforts by authorities to address alleged thefts at major public facilities and the importance of strengthening safeguards to protect assets critical to national infrastructure.
