US ICE Arrests Ghanaian National In Ohio After Attempt To Conceal Criminal History

A Ghanaian national has been arrested in Ohio by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement after authorities uncovered an attempt to conceal details of his criminal background during an immigration process.

The arrest occurred after the individual visited an office of U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services in Columbus to pursue immigration benefits. During routine checks, officials identified discrepancies in the information provided, triggering further verification.

Investigations revealed that the Ghanaian national had previously been convicted of credit card fraud, a fact he failed to disclose in his application. Immigration officials flagged the omission as a serious violation, as applicants are required to fully declare any criminal history when seeking legal status or benefits.

Following the discovery, ICE officers were alerted and subsequently took the individual into custody at the USCIS facility. Authorities stressed that misrepresentation during immigration proceedings carries significant legal consequences and can result in detention or removal.

The arrest highlights ongoing enforcement measures by U.S. immigration authorities aimed at ensuring transparency and integrity within the immigration system. Officials continue to warn applicants that attempts to hide or falsify personal history are likely to be uncovered through routine screening and background checks.
