Larruso Reveals Why He Does Not Earn Royalties From One Of His Old Songs
Ghanaian dancehall musician Larruso has opened up about why he does not receive royalties from one of his previously released songs, revealing that the issue is tied to ownership and control of his music during his earlier career.
Speaking in a recent interview, the singer explained that he currently does not have rights to some of his older music. According to him, the ownership of those songs was tied to agreements he had with his former record label and management team, which means he does not benefit financially from them today.
Larruso disclosed that during the period he was signed to the label, he had limited control over the music he created. Even after fulfilling the full duration of his contract, he said he still struggled to gain full access to some of his work and related materials.
Because of that situation, any royalties generated from those songs are not paid directly to him. The rights remain with the parties who owned or controlled the recordings under the original contract.
The artist explained that the experience was one of the major challenges he faced in the early stages of his career. At the time, he said he was unable to freely upload or distribute some of his songs and had little authority over how they were managed.
Despite the setbacks, Larruso said he is now focused on moving forward with his music career. He continues to release new music and build his brand while working toward having full control over his future projects.
Issues surrounding music ownership and royalties are not uncommon in the music industry. In many recording agreements, record labels may own the master recordings or copyrights to songs, which allows them to collect royalties generated from those works.
For Larruso, the situation has served as an important lesson about the importance of ownership and contractual awareness in the music business. He hopes his experience will encourage upcoming artists to understand their agreements before signing deals.
