Wizkid First African Artist To Surpass 10 Billion Spotify Streams
Nigerian music superstar Wizkid has made history by becoming the first African artist to reach more than 10 billion streams on Spotify across all credits on the platform. This milestone includes streams from his solo songs, features on other artists’ tracks, and all credited appearances tied to his name.
According to streaming data, Wizkid has also become the first African artist to hit every major Spotify streaming benchmark, from 1 billion streams up through 10 billion, a feat no other African act has achieved.
The record highlights years of consistent global success, propelled by his extensive catalog of hit music and high-profile collaborations. Notable contributors to his streaming total include global chart-topping songs like his feature on Drake’s “One Dance” and his own hit “Essence” with Tems, both of which have accumulated hundreds of millions or more streams.
Wizkid’s achievement underscores the growing international influence of Afrobeats and his enduring global appeal as one of the genre’s most prominent figures.
