You Have No Right To Warn Me Bernard Mornah Fires Back At Frank Davies Over Ofori Atta Case

Bernard Mornah, Lead Convenor of pressure group Arise Ghana, has dismissed comments made by lawyer Frank Davies, saying he has no authority to caution him over statements concerning the detention and legal issues surrounding former Finance Minister Ken Ofori Atta.

Speaking publicly, Mornah made it clear that he does not accept warnings from Davies regarding how he chooses to express himself on the matter. He insisted that his comments are part of a broader demand for accountability and transparency, especially where public officials are concerned. According to Mornah, calls for restraint are misplaced when serious questions remain unanswered.

Frank Davies, who represents Ken Ofori Atta, had earlier advised Mornah to be mindful of his words, stressing that the former finance minister has not been convicted of any crime. Davies argued that making strong public allegations could be misleading and potentially harmful, urging critics to allow legal processes to proceed without unnecessary public pressure.

Mornah rejected that position, stating that civil society groups have a responsibility to speak boldly when they believe the public interest is at stake. He maintained that public advocacy and strong language are legitimate tools in pushing for accountability, particularly in cases involving alleged economic mismanagement.

The exchange highlights growing tensions between civil society activists demanding accountability and legal representatives seeking to protect the rights and reputations of their clients. As discussions around Ofori Atta’s legal situation continue, the debate over public commentary and responsibility remains intense.
