Social Media Creator Arrested After Publishing False Claims Against Police in Ghana
Isaac Boafo, a 45-year-old content creator popularly known online as Duabo King, was arrested by the Ashanti Regional Police Command for allegedly publishing false information likely to cause fear and panic. The Ghana Police Service confirmed his arrest after a video he posted on TikTok made unverified allegations about police officers.
According to a police statement, the arrest stems from a viral video in which Boafo claimed that four officers attached to the Central Police Station in Kumasi had engaged in inappropriate conduct with commercial sex workers during night patrols in the Asafo area of Kumasi. The video quickly gained traction on social media and raised public concern.
Officers from the Police Intelligence Directorate in the Ashanti Region conducted an intelligence-led operation that led to Boafo’s arrest. During questioning, he reportedly admitted to making and sharing the video, explaining that he is a social media content creator and that he made the allegations to attract more views and engagement online. He acknowledged that he could not provide evidence to support the claims made in the video.
Boafo has since been formally charged with publication of false news and is in police custody to assist with further investigations. The Police used the case to warn the public against spreading unverified or false information on digital platforms, stating that such actions can lead to fear, panic, and reputational harm and may result in legal consequences under Ghanaian law.
