Kotoko Coach Blames Goalkeeper Error After Hearts Of Oak Loss
Asante Kotoko head coach Prince Owusu has identified a costly mistake by his goalkeeper as the main reason his side lost 1-0 to Accra Hearts of Oak in the Ghana Premier League Super Clash at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium on Sunday, February 15, 2026. The defeat ended Kotoko’s unbeaten home run and has sparked debate among fans and analysts about what went wrong for the Porcupine Warriors.
Owusu said after the match that although his team dominated possession and created numerous chances, a single defensive lapse proved decisive. He explained that goalkeeper Charles Dzisah-Agbeko failed to deal cleanly with a cross early in the game, allowing Hearts’ Baba Adamu to score the only goal in the 14th minute with a well-timed header. This early setback, according to the coach, shifted momentum and made the contest more difficult.
Despite going down to ten men after Emmanuel Amankwah was shown a second yellow card and sent off, Hearts defended stoutly. Kotoko had extended periods with the ball, pressing forward in search of an equaliser, but struggled to find the breakthrough. Owusu praised his players’ effort and commitment, noting that the team kept pushing until the final whistle but lacked the final touch in the attacking third.
The coach emphasised that football often hinges on fine margins and that small errors can decide tight matches. He acknowledged Kotoko’s strong performance, but underlined that the defensive error and a missed opportunity to convert chances ultimately cost his side victory. Owusu appealed to supporters for patience, stressing that lessons will be taken from the result as the team prepares for upcoming fixtures.
Moving forward, he said he will work closely with the defence and goalkeeper to improve concentration and decision-making in critical moments. Kotoko now looks ahead to their next match as they aim to regain form and climb the league standings.
