Inside The Alleged Coup Plot In Nigeria How A Nollywood Actor Was Recruited Against Tinubu
Fresh details have surfaced surrounding an alleged plan to overthrow the government of Nigerian President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, with reports indicating that a well known Nollywood actor and filmmaker was drawn into the scheme as a civilian collaborator.
Nollywood director and actor Stanley Amandi, a former chairman of the Actors Guild of Nigeria in Enugu State, was reportedly arrested in September 2025 alongside several Nigerian military officers accused of plotting an illegal takeover of power. Information about his alleged involvement only became public recently following the conclusion of military investigations.
According to security sources, investigators believe Amandi was recruited by suspected coup plotters to function as a civilian propagandist. Authorities claim he was expected to use his public visibility and influence within the entertainment industry to help spread messaging and shape public opinion in support of the planned action.
Nigeria’s Defence Headquarters has confirmed that investigations into the alleged plot have been completed and forwarded to the appropriate authorities. Military officials implicated in the case are expected to face court martial proceedings, while civilians named in the investigation are likely to be prosecuted through the civil justice system.
Reports also suggest the alleged plan involved targeting senior government officials, with some high profile figures reportedly identified during the investigation. However, officials have not released specific details about potential targets, citing national security concerns.
Amandi’s last known social media activity reportedly occurred shortly before his arrest. As of the time of reporting, neither the actor nor his legal representatives have issued a public statement addressing the allegations.
