KT Hammond Rejects GH¢89 Million Scandal Allegations And Demands Apology
Former Minister for Trade and Industry, Kobina Tahir Hammond, has strongly rejected allegations linking him to a supposed GH¢89 million financial scandal, describing the claims as false and misleading.
The controversy follows statements by the Finance Ministry and the Auditor General suggesting that a fictitious or questionable debt amounting to about GH¢89 million was connected to activities within the Trade Ministry during his tenure.
In response, KT Hammond dismissed the allegations and insisted that he had no involvement in any wrongdoing. He argued that the claims being circulated create a false impression and unfairly damage his reputation.
According to him, the narrative surrounding the alleged debt is inaccurate and does not reflect the true circumstances of the transactions in question. He maintained that proper procedures were followed during his time in office and that there was no misconduct on his part.
The former minister further called on both the Finance Minister and the Auditor General to retract the statements and issue a public apology. He said the allegations amount to false publication and should be corrected to set the record straight.
The issue is linked to a broader audit exercise by government authorities aimed at reviewing outstanding financial claims and arrears. Recent audit findings have identified several irregularities, including duplicated, unsupported or inflated claims within public financial records.
KT Hammond’s response has added to the ongoing national debate about accountability and transparency in public financial management. While government officials say the audit is part of efforts to eliminate financial irregularities, critics argue that some claims must be carefully verified before being attributed to individuals.
The matter continues to generate public attention as discussions intensify over the findings of the audit and the responsibilities of public officials connected to the transactions.
