At Least Seven Ghanaians Reportedly Killed In Terrorist Attack In Burkina Faso

At least seven Ghanaian nationals are reported to have died following a terrorist attack in Titao, northern Burkina Faso, where a truck transporting Ghanaian tomato traders was caught in the violence on Saturday, February 14, 2026. The incident has raised serious concern in Ghana and comes amid increasing extremist activity in the Sahel region.

The Ministry of the Interior and National Security in Ghana confirmed receiving “disturbing information” about the attack in Titao. In a statement signed by the Minister for the Interior, Muntaka Mohammed-Mubarak, the government said it has been informed that a vehicle carrying traders from Ghana was affected during a militant assault.

Authorities have not yet released full details about the identities of the victims or the exact number of people killed, but estimates of seven Ghanaian traders reportedly killed have circulated in initial reports. Efforts are under way to verify the figures and identify those affected.

Following the incident, the Ghanaian Embassy in Burkina Faso has been in contact with local officials to secure access to the site, gather verified information and confirm the status of the traders on board the truck. The volatile security situation near the Mali border has complicated verification efforts.

The sad development highlights the risks faced by cross-border traders in the region, where extremist groups linked to al-Qaeda and other militant networks carry out frequent attacks on civilians and security forces. Burkina Faso’s northern towns, including Titao, have experienced repeated violence in recent years.

Ghana’s government has pledged to update the public as more verified information becomes available, while urging caution and support for affected families.
