New Judge Takes Over Midway In Republic v. Adu-Boahene Trial

A new judge has taken over the ongoing criminal trial involving former National Signals Bureau Director-General Kwabena Adu-Boahene, marking a significant development in the high-profile case.

Reports indicate that Justice Francis Apangabuno Achibonga assumed responsibility for the trial on Wednesday, March 11, 2026, after the case had already begun under a different judge. The reassignment means the new judge will now continue hearing the matter from its current stage.

The case involves Adu-Boahene and his wife, who are facing several charges including stealing, money laundering, and using public office for private gain. The trial has attracted considerable public attention due to the serious nature of the allegations and the prominent position previously held by the accused.

Although the reasons for the change in the presiding judge were not immediately explained in detail, such developments occasionally occur within the judicial system due to administrative adjustments or other procedural considerations.

The Republic v. Adu-Boahene case has already gone through several legal proceedings and challenges in different courts. Earlier this year, the Supreme Court dismissed an application related to criminal disclosure rules in the case after the Attorney-General sought a review of a previous ruling.

With the appointment of Justice Achibonga, the trial is expected to continue as the court examines evidence and arguments presented by both the prosecution and the defence.

Legal analysts say the mid-trial change in judges could influence the pace of proceedings, as the new presiding judge may need time to familiarise himself with the case record before continuing with the hearings.

The trial remains one of the notable corruption and public office related cases currently before the courts, and observers are closely watching how the proceedings unfold under the new judge.
