The University of Ghana Sports Stadium was turned into a place of emotions on Sunday, June 23, 2024 when Nsoatreman FC took on Bofoakwa Tano in the final game of the MTN FA Cup. In what was a very tensed and exciting game throughout the two halves, Nsoatreman FC won the MTN FA CUP finals on penalties.
Goal by Richard Dzikoe secured an early second-half lead for Bofoakwa Tano and sent the home fans wild, a cushion that from then on looked likely to be the solid cushion they craved. The latter half was a total opposite with Nsoatreman FC who came back strongly chasing for a leveler. As the game wore on, the tension in the stands was positively tangible.
The breakthrough eventually came in the 79th minute as Sadat Mohammed cracked a blistering shot to level the score, sparking wild jubilation among Naziru’s family and Nsoatreman FC supporters. That left the match on a knife-edge and both teams would then battle for a decisive goal. After 90 minutes of regular action ended up locked at one goal apiece on the scoreboard, the game proceeded to an extra nerve-wracking penalty shootout.
Fans from both sides cheered and chanted, the stadium filled with a mixture of anticipation and nervous energy. Every time there was a penalty the ebbs and flow of hope and anguish washed over each person. In the end, it was Nsoatreman FC that held their nerve. The jubilant celebrations came after a 5-4 win and it was Nsoatreman FC’s maiden title in the MTN FA Cup.
This win proves the resilient, determined, undaunted by circumstances attitude of this team. From the players to members of the coaching staff, everyone at Nsoatreman FC had a contribution to make to this history making feat.
At the post match interview, the head coach, Maxwell Konadu stated that
“I knew we will do well before the start of the season and I think when you believe in yourself, it is the beginning of everything”
“The self believe did a lot. It motivated me to sign for Nsoatreman. I knew that we could do well in the league and the FA Cup but I never thought we could win the Cup. It has come as a surprise to me”
Meanwhile, this new dawn at Nsoatreman FC can only bode well beyond the momentous victory. It makes them a real powerhouse in Ghana football and prepares the grounds for future great achievements. A great future beckons Nsoatreman FC as they look to build on this success with a Ghc180k prize money for a hard work done.
