Oti Police Reject GH¢50,000 Bribe, Arrest Two Suspects In Dambai

A team of officers from the Regional Police Intelligence Department (RPID) in the Oti Region has refused a GH¢50,000 bribe offered by two men who were arrested with a hidden firearm and ammunition in Dambai. The suspects attempted to offer the money to avoid arrest, but the police firmly turned down the offer as they enforced the law.

The incident happened during a police intelligence operation on Sunday, February 8, 2026, when officers stopped a Hyundai Kia Rhino truck that was reportedly carrying building materials. Upon inspection, the police discovered a locally made single-barrel short gun and 21 boxes containing 525 rounds of ammunition.

The two suspects, 35-year-old Abubakari Salam Atta and 19-year-old Kabuja Kwadwo Taademe, were taken into custody after they allegedly tried to offer GH¢50,000 to the officers for their release. The police rejected the bribe and proceeded with the arrests, demonstrating their commitment to upholding the law.

Police say the suspects are currently assisting with investigations as authorities work to determine how the firearm and ammunition were obtained and the intended destination of the consignment. The RPID credited the successful operation to good intelligence and cooperation between units, and reiterated its dedication to public safety and crime prevention in the region
