Veteran Gospel Singer Toun Soetan Passes Away At 73
Veteran Nigerian gospel singer and evangelist Toun Soetan has passed away at the age of 73, leaving behind a legacy that influenced generations of Christian worshippers and gospel musicians.
Her death was confirmed on March 13, 2026, with tributes pouring in from gospel artistes, ministers and fans who described her as a pioneering figure in gospel music.
Toun Soetan, popularly known as Evangelist Shouet, was widely recognised as the composer of the popular Christian chorus “Darling Jesus.” The song became one of the most widely sung worship choruses in churches and Christian gatherings across Nigeria and beyond.
Throughout her career, Soetan dedicated more than four decades to gospel music ministry. Her songs and teachings were known for their strong biblical messages and inspirational themes that encouraged faith and spiritual growth among believers.
In addition to “Darling Jesus,” she also released other well known gospel songs including “Ke Pe Jesu” and “Cast Your Burdens.” These songs gained popularity during revival meetings and worship services, particularly in the early 1990s when her music reached a wider audience.
Beyond music, Soetan also served as a minister and founder of Trinity World Evangelical Ministry. Through her ministry and music school, she trained and mentored many gospel musicians who later became prominent in the Christian music community.
