MC Yaa Yeboah Insists 2026 TGMAs Awards Must Be Won On True Merit
Media personality and award show host MC Yaa Yeboah has called for the 2026 Telecom Ghana Music Awards (TGMAs) to be grounded firmly in fairness and artistic quality, saying that awards should only be given to individuals and works that genuinely deserve recognition based on their contributions to the music industry.
In a recent interview with local entertainment media, MC Yaa Yeboah stressed that while fan support and popularity are valuable aspects of an artist’s career, they should not be the sole factors determining who wins at major industry awards. She explained that music awards such as the TGMAs are symbolic of excellence and achievement, and therefore must reflect true musical impact, creativity, artistry, and hard work rather than influence, hype, or social media trends.
MC Yaa Yeboah said that when awards are decided more on buzz than on merit, it can undermine the credibility of the event and hurt the morale of emerging artists who are working tirelessly to produce quality music and develop their careers. She urged judges, music producers, and awards organizers to ensure that the criteria for nominations and final selections are transparent, well‑defined, and anchored in measurable indicators of success and artistic value.
She added that fair judging can help nurture Ghana’s music ecosystem by inspiring young artists to focus on skill, originality, and consistency. According to her, the TGMAs present a unique platform to honor both established and upcoming talent, and upholding high standards will benefit the industry as a whole.
Fans and entertainment observers have welcomed her comments, suggesting that artists themselves deserve a system that rewards effort and achievement rather than mere popularity. Many have echoed her view that true excellence in music deserves genuine recognition.
