NDC Committee Submits Report On Alleged Vote-Buying In Ayawaso East Primaries
A three-member team appointed by the National Democratic Congress has submitted its investigative report on alleged inducement and vote-buying during the party’s parliamentary primary in the Ayawaso East Constituency. The inquiry, which focused on claims of improper conduct during the February 7 primary, was completed and the findings were handed over to the party’s Functional Executive Committee on Tuesday, February 10.
The committee was established after widespread allegations emerged that items such as television sets and other goods were distributed to delegates on nomination day, prompting concerns about the integrity of the process. Its assignment was to examine these claims and make recommendations based on what it found.
Speaking at the party headquarters in Accra, a member of the investigative team confirmed they had formally submitted the report but declined to disclose its contents publicly, noting that the document now belongs to the Functional Executive Committee. The party said it will communicate the significant findings and recommendations once it has reviewed the submission internally.
The submission comes as the NDC works to meet the deadline set by the Electoral Commission of Ghana for filing nominations ahead of the upcoming Ayawaso East by-election, scheduled for March 3. There has been public interest in how the party will address the allegations without breaching constitutional timelines.
The candidate who won the primary, Mohammed Baba Jamal, has consistently denied any wrongdoing tied to the allegations, even as the party continues to review its internal processes to reinforce accountability and electoral integrity in future primaries
