Health Minister Suspends Nalerigu Nursing College Principal Over Alleged Admission Breaches
The Minister for Health, Kwabena Mintah Akandoh, has ordered the immediate suspension of the Principal of Nalerigu Nurses and Midwifery Training College in the North East Region following reports of unauthorised student admissions at the institution.
According to a statement from the Ministry of Health, the suspension was issued after preliminary findings suggested that the college admitted students in ways that did not follow established admission protocols. The action is meant to allow further investigations into the matter without interference.
Minister Akandoh took the decision during his ongoing tour of health training facilities and service delivery centres in the Upper East, Northern, and North East Regions. During the visits, he was briefed on operational challenges at various institutions, including concerns about adherence to rules governing admissions.
The Ministry emphasised that strict adherence to set admission procedures is crucial to maintaining high standards in all health training colleges across the country. Officials say that once investigations are complete, appropriate action will be taken based on the findings.
This decision reflects the government’s ongoing commitment to accountability, transparency, and upholding quality education standards in Ghana’s health sector training institutions.
