Police Conduct Pre-Dawn Operation And Arrest 20 Suspected Drug Peddlers In Ashaiman
In a coordinated pre-dawn operation, the Ghana Police Service has arrested 20 individuals suspected of involvement in drug peddling and related criminal activity in Ashaiman, a municipal area in the Greater Accra Region. The arrests are part of an intensified effort by law enforcement to curb the sale and distribution of illicit substances in communities across the municipality.
The intelligence-led operation took place at around 6:10 a.m. on February 21, 2026, when officers moved on several identified drug activity hotspots in Ashaiman. The exercise was led by the Ashaiman District Police Commander, Superintendent Orlando Joseph Adzokpa, with support from ASP Ibrahim Bukari, 23 police personnel, and 10 Community Police Assistants drawn from the district command.
Acting on credible intelligence, the police targeted areas known locally for drug trading and other unlawful activities. These locations included Fitter Line, the Spider Toilet area at Valco Flats, New Town Junction, MTN Park and Jericho, where the suspects were rounded up during the early morning swoop.
The suspects, who are between 18 and 37 years old, were detained during the coordinated exercise. In addition to the arrests, officers recovered nine motorbikes, boxes of machetes, pairs of scissors, lighters, packets of cigarettes and small amounts of dried leaves suspected to be Indian hemp following searches at the sites.
Police sources indicate that all individuals apprehended will undergo screening and profiling. Those found to be guilty of offences will be arraigned before court, while others may be granted bail pending further investigations. The Ashaiman District Command has also assured residents that similar operations will continue as part of wider security measures aimed at flushing out criminal elements and restoring confidence in local safety and security.
