A fatal road accident in the Volta Region has claimed the life of a truck driver after his vehicle collided with a trailer at Hohoe Junction early Friday morning. The incident occurred when a Toyota Hilux pick-up truck reportedly collided with a trailer truck, leaving the driver of the pick-up seriously injured and later pronounced dead by medical personnel. The trailer driver escaped without serious injuries and is assisting authorities with the investigation.
According to eyewitness accounts, the collision took place near the popular Hohoe Junction around 5:30 am, when visibility was low and traffic was beginning to build. The impact was severe, and emergency responders rushed to the scene upon receiving distress calls from commuters in the area. The driver of the pick-up, whose identity has not been released, was hurried to a nearby hospital but succumbed to his injuries shortly after arrival.
Residents who witnessed the crash said that the trailer seemed to veer into the path of the pick-up, leaving little chance for the driver to avoid the collision. Some locals also speculated that speed and poor road conditions may have been contributing factors. The Hohoe Traffic Unit of the Ghana Police Service has since cordoned off the scene and begun a detailed inquiry into the cause of the deadly collision.
