Lupita Nyong’o Shares Update On Her Health After Revealing More Than 50 Fibroids
Oscar-winning actress Lupita Nyong’o has opened up about a long-standing health challenge, revealing that she now has more than 50 uterine fibroids, a condition she first encountered over a decade ago. The 42-year-old Hollywood star spoke about her situation during a recent interview, where she described how the growths have returned in greater numbers and shared how the experience has shaped her perspective.
Nyong’o explained that she was initially diagnosed with fibroids in 2014, the same year she won an Academy Award, and underwent surgery to remove about 23 of them. However, she recently learned that the condition has returned and intensified, with imaging revealing over 50 fibroids at this stage. Her largest fibroid has been described as significant in size when compared with familiar objects.
In discussing her options, Nyong’o said she is facing decisions about further medical treatment but has not committed to another surgery yet. She spoke candidly about weighing the potential risks and impacts on her reproductive health before moving forward with additional procedures.
The actress also shared emotional reflections on her journey, admitting that earlier in her diagnosis she felt alone and unsure of what to do. Speaking out about her experience, she said, has helped her connect with other women facing similar challenges and has given her a strong sense of community and support.
Nyong’o is using her public platform to raise awareness about fibroids and to encourage open conversation about reproductive health issues. She has emphasised the importance of people sharing their stories so that conditions like this are better understood and no longer treated as something to be hidden or ignored.
