Shatta Wale Explains Why He Didn’t Submit For 2026 TGMA Despite Reconciliation With Charterhouse
Ghanaian dancehall star Shatta Wale will not appear in the nominations for the 27th Telecom Ghana Music Awards (TGMA), even though his previous ban was lifted and he has since reconciled with organisers Charterhouse.
Fans had expected the artist to be featured among nominees after he resolved past differences with Charterhouse and even engaged in collaborative discussions with the event organisers. Despite this, he is notably missing from the list of contenders for this year’s awards.
According to Entertainment spokesperson Robert Klah, the situation is not the result of exclusion by Charterhouse but rather a strategic choice made by Shatta Wale’s management. In an interview, Klah explained that although the ban imposed in 2019 — which followed an on‑stage incident — was lifted in February 2021 and the artist is eligible to participate, his camp has opted out of entering the awards scheme this year.
Klah further noted that the relationship between Shatta Wale and Charterhouse remains cordial. The artist has attended meetings with organisers both before and after his recent birthday celebrations, reflecting a positive dynamic despite opting out of the awards.
Charterhouse has emphasised that the door remains open for Shatta Wale’s participation in future editions of the TGMA, and that the decision not to submit entries for 2026 does not reflect any ongoing dispute or ill will between the parties.
